My Filofax Week (Week 35)

I have completely lost count on my filofax weeks, but after checking on the gorgeous paperlovestory's blog I'll take a stab at Week 35 as I'm a little ahead!

From my last post you all know that Little Miss Finsbury is getting on my nerves and that’s pretty evident from my lack of posting and showing off stickys. So I decided to try something new to my WPP diary this week, something that although is new to me is not so new in the filofax scheme of things.

I’m dividing my days up. On one side I’ll treat it as a to do list with reoccurring boring things that need to be done during the day and on the other side I’ll write down all my social dates mainly cuddling up with the FiancĂ©. Any major meetings or things that need my attention will be written across the day as normal.

I’ve only just started this method that I’ve seen so many of you own and hope it works for me or at least keeps me engaged enough while I think hard about this re-jig.

The problem is, I’m one of those awkward people who buys a WPP diary and then half way through the year realises it doesn’t really suit her anymore, but kind of refuses to buy WO2P diary because she feels like it’s a waste on the WPP front? AM I MAD! This is the same person who thought buying a ridiculous WHSmith month on page diary will solve everything and used probably half a month of it. What a load of poppycock!

Week 26th - 1st Sep 2013
And here's a page from a few weeks back where my beloved whisked me away to Disneyland Paris for an early birthday treat! Aren't I a lucky lass!

Mundane Monday 15

Oopsy! Technical problems AGAIN yesturday.. Here's Monday's post!

Happy bank holiday to those off in the UK. Although the weather is notoriously known for being rubbish pretty much every bank holiday, it’s been ok so far, give or a take a day or two of rain. This weekend I have been on the last min shopping runs to get pieces and jewellery for my engagement party in Sept and also some presents to give to loved ones.

Something a little more interesting I decided to dabble in over the weekend was catch up on some reading about Lucid Dreaming. I’m a big fan of dreaming generally, I find it really helps me focus and sometimes acts as a run through for things I’m experiencing in life. For example a lot of my dreams have been about the wedding and walking down the aisle nerves!

I downloaded some free apps on android about lucid dreaming and read through some of their articles. The concept seems fascinating, even more so thanks to movies like Inception that make it seems so easy. However, I can’t help but feel there is also some dark element to it, like it’s not all great. Things like playing sound cues of voices during certain times at night that only your subconscious hears is well, a little daunting for me and doesn't really put me in control does it? Which is the whole concept of lucid dreams.

Anyway, so my journey to expanding my dream capabilities has begun. I set up a sound cue as I thought a voice will certainly transport my mind into dreams similar to that of the movie THE CONJOURING! Goodness help me! Last night I got comfy and drifted off in the usual way, intent on trying to control the dream or realise I'm dreaming without waking up (so far I’ve only done it once by chance).

The result? Well, I only had the deepest sleep ever! I mean I might as well have been drugged! I don’t think my sub-conscious picked up on any of the cues and my usual amaze-balls dream recall was rubbish! But I am not disheartened, I’ve turned the volumes up and tweaked things here in there, perhaps even download a different app and am giving it a go again tonight.

Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.
~William Dement

In the meantime, this quote, perfectly sums up the way I feel about dreaming, because I am a very silly person deep down, most of my dreams resemble the goings on in Alice in Wonderland. I quite like the idea that in the morning, only I know if my mind allows me to remember just how crazily insane I can be!

Happy dreaming sweethearts!

A Filofax Re-Jig

It’s that time of year again when my delightful Finsbury seems to be spending more time alone than with me, often left on my desk, left on my bed, left under that growing pile of clothes in the corner of my room (What?).

For some reason or another it just doesn’t command the same level of love and attention from me as it used to. The only way to solve this is to sit down tomorrow with coloured pens and sticky tabs in hand and think hard about a new set up and new layout.

I don’t know why but the once lovely colour and feel of the Finsbury is well, I hate to say it but now getting on my nerves a bit. I think since I’ve been using the Luxe, I’ve realised that I love the bigger A5 layout, the space makes it easier for my left handed-ness and the pages just seem more welcoming and inviting to use. That and I can’t get enough of the new leather smell that is still around 6 months or so later. All coupled together I think I’ve been spoilt by Lady Luxe’s , well.. Luxury!

I have a few options to mix things up, I could go back to my Cherry darling (the red Metropol in personal) the organiser itself is a little larger than the Finsbury but the plastic cover makes it seem a bit amateur and school-ish when I’m trying to channel my inner businessman/lady.

Then there’s my secretive Classic in a gorgeous tan colour a personal size again. I’ve never used this one, instantaneously deciding to cherish and save it for special use the minute I received it. But I still can’t help but feel deep down inside that maybe I’ve just out grown the personals for the time being and an A5 is the way to go.

Hopefully I’ll have better progress report at the end of the week.

Oh and in other news.. The Mother has STOLEN MY LUXE! Oh yeah, forgot to mention that didn’t I!

The Mother has enjoyed my filo journey so much that the other day she came across an unbranded organiser in the shop and suggested she bought it. I, immediately excited in welcoming a newbie to the filofax world dissuaded her from it and thought I’d give her one of my beloved personals to get her going..

So that evening I sat down with her and bought out my Cherry, Classic and Finsbury on display (the Luxe tightly nestled under my arm) and gave her a choice. She only went for my Lady Luxe didn’t she! Oh! I still haven’t been able to emotionally part with it yet, often sobbing silently when I see the Mother walk by with it. She obviously has no idea why I’m behaving like this, but I can see her getting attached to it as if it’s the ring from LOTR.

So I am not on the hunt for a new A5. I’m debating about the Chamelon that’s currently on a discount on Filofax’s website. Perhaps in black as I want a more business/office friendly organiser. But then the Holborn in a gorgeous wine! Or maybe splash on an Osterley? I’d love to get my hands on an Amazona but that’s a journey in itself.

Filofax Wedding: Organiser v Scrapbook

So this is a post long time coming. As I have been hinting for quite some time now, I am finally able to use the last tab in my Lady Luxe A5 Osterley.

That tab is for wedding planning! I’ve added 5 Martha Stuart coloured tabs which are the perfect size for the A5’s and labelled each one with the engagement, registry, reception and one for outfit and misc.

To fit them into the Luxe I simply cut out the holes in a long strip so I could slot them in rather than specifically hole punching.

I’ve labelled them with the large Martha Stuart sticky tabs as I like the shape and pastel colours which bode well with my wedding creativity!

Within each one I’ve simply added lined paper and coloured paper to jot down any and all info. For the engagement I’ve made simple grids with a few coloured pens to jot down lists and info of different caterers and marquee hire businesses so I can see at a glance what quotes I’ve got and what they include.

Here’s an example of a handwritten style spreadsheet for marquees etc.

To be honest I am still undecided about whether to treat this tab as a wedding organiser or as a wedding scrapbook/organiser. I love the idea of being creative and sticking loads of cut outs and fabric samples in the pages instead of just jotting down pages and pages of info. However, I have been a bit lazy with this so far.. So for now it’s more on the organiser side.

Has anyone else converted their filo for wedding planning? It certainly deserves a tab if not a whole filofax of its own what with all those ideas bursting from your head onto the pages.
